I make this sauce all the time. Please don’t confuse it with its thicker counterpart. It is first and foremost a sauce. Its thicker than water and thinner than store bought caramel… does that help? Its good… and as the title states…. easy peasy.
I found this in Granny’s recipe book… although I do not every remember her making it…. but I have made great use of it in these past years… perfect on pie, cakes, ice cream or with a ..ummmm…spoon. Yeah I said it.
- 1 cup Packed Brown Sugar
- 1/2 stick Unsalted Butter
- 1/2 cup Half-and-Half
- 1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Add all of the ingredients to a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Cook and whisk for 6 to 8 minutes, until it begins to get thicker. ( be gentle with the whisking)
Turn off the heat and remove… allow it to sit 10 minutes before serving. You can also put it in the fridge and save it for late… perfect on vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.
