Yes, I know… I spelled Betty wrong. Let me explain. In the community we live in, the areas are divided up into smaller communities with individual names. We are all considered the Down East ( ummm the ORIGINAL) community, but we all have our own little name. We live in Bettie, funny to some I am sure, but its been home for forty three years (yes I am 43, hard to believe, I know most of you thought I was 24, its okay… we can still go with that) I am posting a picture of the Down East Area. Its historic, bathed in tradition and there is no other place on this big rock I want to live.
I changed up the name of this simple dessert to just pay homage to my neighborhood. Hope you try it…. it tastes like a million bucks but will only coast you five… for real.
- 3 Granny Smith Apples
- 3 1/2 cubes cubed bread ( I used a fresh Take N Bake baguette from the deli)
- 3/4 of a stick of Butter ( cold and cut into tabs)
- 1-1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 4 Tablespoons cold Water
Toppings:
Ice Cream, Whipped Cream, Caramel or Toasted Pecans…. or all of them. Hey, we get one life right?
Peel and thinly slice 3 apples.
Dice bread into small cubes.
Coat pie plate with butter.
Add 1/3 of the brown sugar, 1/3 of the apple slices, and 1/3 of the bread cubes and half of the butter
Repeat these layers ending with bread cubes and the last of the butter on top.
Sprinkle dish with water and a little more brown sugar and cinnamon.
Bake at 375 degrees covered in foil, about 45 minutes.
Remove foil in last few minutes of baking to brown the top.
NOTE: I made a flower design with apples pieces, you don’t have to do that, that was just me, being me.
Let sit 10 minutes and serve.
