I think everyone’s mama makes the best spaghetti sauce… spaghetti is a childhood staple, and let’s face it, it feeds a crowd and the leftovers are always amazing. Some of the best memories are centered around Mama’s sauce!
I have a few recipes in my arsenal, but this is kinda my favorite.. and since it’s kiddo and hubbyman approved, it’s worth writing.
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 large green pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cans diced tomatoes
- 3 cans tomato sauce
- 1 large can mushrooms
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons fresh oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt and pepper
- ½ teaspoon fresh basil, chopped
- ½ teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
Fresh Oregano and Parmesan for serving
In a skillet cook meat, onion, green pepper, and garlic until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Drain and add to a large crock pot on low heat.
Add un-drained tomatoes, tomato sauce, drained mushrooms, sugar, oregano, salt, basil, thyme, stir well.
Stir in the water, and cover. Leave in crock pot, on low for 3 to 4 hours.
Serve over cooked pasta and top with parmesan and garnish with oregano.
